Pharmacy Council Update from Health Minister Syed Mustafa

Islamabad — The Director General of Health provided Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal with a detailed briefing on the affairs of the Pharmacy Council, covering the council’s current performance, registration procedures, pharmacist education and training, and proposed sector reforms. The minister stressed the need for transparent, merit-based policies aligned with modern standards and directed that the council be strengthened to function more actively and effectively.

In the briefing, officials reviewed the Pharmacy Council’s operational performance and identified areas for improvement. Discussions covered the efficiency and integrity of the registration process for pharmacists, with attention to streamlining procedures and ensuring accurate record-keeping.

Education and training of pharmacists were highlighted as key priorities. The session examined current curricula and professional development programs, and explored measures to enhance training quality so that pharmacists meet evolving healthcare needs and international benchmarks.

Reform proposals for the pharmacy sector were also discussed, focusing on policy changes and institutional improvements. In response, Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal emphasized transparency and merit as guiding principles and called for policies that reflect contemporary requirements. He directed efforts to make the Pharmacy Council a more active and effective regulatory body.
