Deepening Pakistan Romania Ties Through Dialogue

On April 3, 2026 in Islamabad, Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Dan Stoenescu, called on Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at his official residence to discuss ways of strengthening Pakistan Romania ties across political, cultural and economic fronts.

The Chairman Senate welcomed a special cultural gift from Romania’s renowned Madrigal–Marin Constantin Choir: a recorded and choral score rendition of Pakistan’s National Anthem. He described the presentation as a meaningful cultural initiative that reinforces people to people connections and commended the choir, the Ambassador and Romanian authorities for the thoughtful gesture.

Chairman Gilani extended good wishes for the success of Romania’s new government that assumed office after the May 2025 presidential elections and underscored Pakistan’s regard for Romania as a key country in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region with an important role in promoting regional peace and stability. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to deepening Pakistan Romania ties based on existing agreements and memoranda of understanding that provide a framework for cooperation in political, economic and defense domains.

Emphasizing the role of parliamentary engagement, the Chairman highlighted the establishment of Parliamentary Friendship Groups for Romania in both the Senate and the National Assembly of Pakistan and proposed increased interaction between parliamentary friendship groups of the two countries. He also noted his unanimous election as Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference and his role in hosting its conference in Islamabad last year, pointing to parliamentary diplomacy as a tool to strengthen bilateral ties.

The meeting addressed regional concerns with the Chairman stressing Pakistan’s consistent and constructive role in seeking peace and stability. He reiterated that dialogue and negotiations remain the most effective means to resolve conflicts and drew attention to the longstanding Afghan refugee challenge, noting that Pakistan has hosted more than 3.5 million Afghan refugees and called for sustained international support to find a durable and dignified resolution.

On the economic front, Chairman Gilani urged greater trade and investment engagement and encouraged closer ties between business communities, including participation in trade fairs and other commercial exchanges to expand trade and investment links. He also welcomed Romania’s facilitation of work opportunities for Pakistani nationals and reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to export more skilled workers through legal channels while expanding academic linkages between universities of both countries.

The Ambassador of Romania appreciated Pakistan’s contribution to regional peace and affirmed Romania’s support for Pakistan’s diplomatic positions at relevant international fora. Both sides concluded the meeting with a shared commitment to sustain dialogue, deepen cooperation and increase people to people contacts to advance Pakistan Romania ties in the years ahead.
