Punjab Cracks Down on Counterfeit Spices
A clandestine spices manufacturing unit on Nisbat Road was sealed after authorities uncovered large-scale production of counterfeit spices, with 48,000kg of adulterated product seized. Officials also confiscated 10,000kg of fake packaging material and 11 production machines during the raid.
The operation was carried out under CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz’s mission for an adulteration-free Punjab, responding to concerns over alleged PFA inaction. Authorities say the raid aims to disrupt the supply of counterfeit spices and protect public health across the province.
An FIR has been registered and the accused have been arrested, with legal proceedings under way. The seized counterfeit spices and packaging will be held as evidence while investigators complete forensic and regulatory checks.
DG PFA Asim Javaid detailed the operation in a media briefing, outlining the quantities seized and the steps taken to hold those responsible to account. He emphasized continued enforcement to prevent similar incidents and to strengthen food safety measures in Punjab.
