Pakistan Pharma Exports Target Global Healthcare Markets
Haroon Akhtar Khan attended the 8th Pakistan Pharma Summit at Serena Hotel as Chief Guest and addressed participants of both the Summit and the Pharma Export Awards, underscoring the strategic role of the pharmaceutical sector in the national economy. He stressed that industrial policy and regulatory reforms are the foundation of Pakistan’s economic future and that a strong pharmaceutical base is vital for the health of Pakistan’s 250 million people.
At the Pharma Export Awards the top 50 pharmaceutical exporters were honoured for their contributions to international trade. The SAPM described the industry’s exporters as the country’s ambassadors, highlighting how pharma exporters raise Pakistan’s profile abroad and open new market opportunities for local manufacturers.
Available figures presented at the event show that Pakistan’s pharma exports have reached USD 457 million, the highest level in two decades and reflecting a record 34% growth for the sector. The SAPM reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the industry, saying policies will focus on strengthening capacity while ensuring the availability of affordable and quality medicines for Pakistani citizens.
He welcomed the participation of international experts at the Summit, noting that global partnerships and the adoption of international best practices and standards are essential to boost competitiveness. With targeted reforms and industry-government collaboration, Haroon Akhtar Khan said Pakistan can secure a more prominent place in the global healthcare market and thanked the award winners for projecting a positive image of Pakistani industry overseas.
