Driving Growth in Tape Ball Championship
The inter-university Tape Ball Championship organized by the Tape Ball Council of Pakistan concluded in Lahore with participation from 20 university teams, culminating in a final between Punjab University and UET Lahore.
Punjab University emerged as champions while UET Lahore finished as runners up. The trophy was received on behalf of Punjab University by Zafar Iqbal Butt, Chairman of Punjab University Sports Department, who thanked the vice chancellor, event organizers and council representatives for their support.
Muhammad Ishtiaq Kiani, Secretary General of the Tape Ball Council of Pakistan, praised the planning behind the event and highlighted the role of Muhammad Rehan, Director General at COMSATS University Lahore, in hosting and coordinating the championship. The university leadership, including the COMSATS vice chancellor and sports department, actively participated in staging the tournament.
Chief guest Muhammad Rashid, advisor to the International Tape Ball Council board, addressed the final and announced concrete player support measures. He said the council will not only organize events but will also assist talented players with job opportunities and salaries, and offered to help secure employment and housing for selected athletes through initiatives linked with Roder Enclave Housing Society.
Aamir Siddiqui, chairman of the International Tape Ball Council, speaking from the United States, said the event has been aligned at the university level and pledged international pathways for standout players. He confirmed plans to task Muhammad Rehan with organizing a women’s inter-university Tape Ball Championship under the council’s banner and to provide international exposure for selected players.
The organizers emphasized that the Tape Ball Championship aims to broaden participation and build career pathways for young athletes across Pakistan. Officials expressed gratitude to all universities, volunteers and council members, and announced that a women’s inter-university competition will be announced soon as part of ongoing development efforts.
