Aligning Population Projections for Health Planning

Syed Mustafa Kamal, Federal Minister for Health, met with the Executive Director of the National Institute of Population Studies (NIPS) to review detailed national and provincial population projections drawn from Census 2025. The briefing presented updated Population Projections intended to inform future health and demographic planning across Pakistan.

The minister stressed the critical importance of accurate population estimates for effective health and population policy formulation. He directed that all projections be harmonized with current data sets to ensure planning at both national and provincial levels reflects the latest demographic realities. Accurate Population Projections were highlighted as essential for resource allocation, programme design and long-term health system readiness.

The meeting also underscored coordination with key partners and stakeholders, noting the roles of the World Health Organization, UNICEF, Gavi the Vaccine Alliance, the Gates Foundation, the Expanded Programme on Immunization Pakistan and the Pakistan Polio Eradication Initiative alongside the Government of Pakistan. The ministry said aligned and up-to-date Population Projections will guide upcoming policy decisions and improve the effectiveness of future health and population initiatives.
