Promoting Ikebana Lahore through Cultural Diplomacy

On 24 October 2025 Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi served as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Lahore Floritage Sogetsu Study Group’s Grand Annual Exhibition in Lahore, a notable occasion for cultural exchange between Japan and Pakistan.

During the ceremony Ambassador Akamatsu, on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, presented the Foreign Minister’s Commendation 2025 to Ms. Neveen Syed, chairperson of the Lahore Floritage Sogetsu Study Group, recognising her sustained contributions to promoting cultural relations.

Ms. Neveen Syed has worked with dedication to introduce Japanese culture through Ikebana classes and exhibitions across Pakistan. Her commitment to teaching and staging floral arrangements has created regular opportunities for local audiences to engage with traditional Japanese aesthetics, reinforcing the presence of Ikebana Lahore in the city’s cultural life.

The award and the Grand Annual Exhibition underline how community-driven initiatives can deepen Japan-Pakistan ties through art and education. Recognition from Japan’s diplomatic mission gives fresh momentum to cultural diplomacy in Lahore and highlights the impact of Ikebana Lahore on bilateral cultural engagement.
