Strengthening Pakistan Azerbaijan Relations in Baku
On the sidelines of the International Parliamentary Conference in Baku, Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani held a bilateral meeting with Speaker Sahiba Gafarova to advance Pakistan Azerbaijan relations. The discussions, held during events marking the 30th anniversary of the adoption of Azerbaijan’s Constitution on October 28, 2025, centred on strengthening parliamentary ties and promoting regional peace and development.
Chairman Gilani conveyed warm greetings to the Azerbaijani leadership and reaffirmed that the pursuit of peace, security and prosperity is a shared mission rooted in bonds of faith, history and enduring friendship. He noted that Pakistan Azerbaijan relations go beyond formal diplomacy and benefit from deep cultural and historical connections.
Recalling their recent interaction in Islamabad only days earlier, Chairman Gilani referenced the successful trilateral parliamentary conference involving Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Türkiye as a milestone in regional cooperation. He also referred to his earlier meeting with President Ilham Aliyev at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2012, saying those high-level engagements laid a foundation for cooperation in energy, infrastructure and agriculture that continues to guide bilateral ties.
The Chairman highlighted the historic Multani Caravanserai in Baku as a tangible reminder of centuries-old links dating back to the Silk Road era and noted his personal roots in Multan as reinforcing the special bond between the two peoples. He extended a cordial invitation to Speaker Gafarova to visit Multan to further cultural and parliamentary exchange.
Both leaders welcomed Azerbaijan’s recent rapprochement with Armenia and the steps toward peace and stability in the South Caucasus. Chairman Gilani expressed Pakistan’s support for initiatives that promote reconciliation and development across the region and urged continued parliamentary cooperation to consolidate those gains.
Chairman Gilani invited the Azerbaijani leadership to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference hosted by the Senate of Pakistan in Islamabad from November 10–12, 2025, underscoring the event as an important platform to discuss regional security, development and inter-parliamentary collaboration. Speaker Gafarova appreciated the hospitality extended during her recent visit to Pakistan and welcomed further joint initiatives.
The meeting also reviewed cooperation through multilateral forums including the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, with Chairman Gilani congratulating Azerbaijan on its re-election within NAM’s parliamentary structure and noting the benefits of institutional continuity for parliamentary diplomacy.
Both leaders committed to enhancing regular parliamentary exchanges, mutual visits and joint initiatives aimed at sustainable development, regional stability and stronger people-to-people linkages. The conversation concluded in a spirit of warmth and mutual understanding, reflecting the deep-rooted partnership that continues to define Pakistan Azerbaijan relations.
