Women Rowing Championship Inspires University Athletes

The All-Pakistan Women Rowing Championship 2025–2026 concluded at Rawalpindi Women University with the University of Lahore claiming the Gold Medal and Trophy, Punjab University finishing second and Lahore Garrison University taking third place, showcasing the strength of Pakistan’s university rowing circuit and the growing prominence of Women Rowing nationwide.

The chief guest, social activist and Chairperson of the Organization for Peace and Culture Ms. Mishaal Hussain Malik, lauded the exceptional talent on display and welcomed the expanding presence of women in sport. Drawing on her own connection to rowing, she highlighted how the sport cultivates discipline, teamwork, resilience and confidence, qualities that equip young athletes to confront challenges with courage and determination.

Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor of Rawalpindi Women University, congratulated the podium teams and underlined that a university’s identity is reflected in the environment it creates for students. She reiterated RWU’s commitment to nurturing critical thinking, leadership and a healthy competitive spirit, and stressed that platforms where education, research and sports complement one another are essential to empowering women across Pakistan.

This year’s championship recorded the highest-ever participation with teams from 21 universities competing across multiple categories that tested endurance and teamwork, including 2000m open weight single, 1000m double lightweight, 500m open weight, 500m relay and 1000m double open weight. The depth of competition illustrated how Women Rowing is expanding at the collegiate level and raising performance standards nationwide.

Additional Registrar Dr. Huma Fawad expressed gratitude to the guests, the Higher Education Commission, the Pakistan Rowing Federation, all participating teams and Organizing Secretary Ms. Sadaf Parveen for their efforts in making the event a success. Representatives from HEC, the President of the Pakistan Rowing Federation and university directors and managers attended the closing ceremony, where shields were presented to guests, the Director Sports and organizers, marking a strong note of support for future university rowing programs.
