Old Ravians Share Trophy With VC After Thrilling Tie

A festival 20-over cricket match at the Oval Ground of Government College University Lahore ended in a shared trophy as Old Ravians XI and the Vice Chancellor XI finished level on 206 on Wednesday.

The decades-old winter tradition was organised by the Old Ravians Union in partnership with the GCU Sports Board and attracted a strong turnout of alumni and former Pakistan players. Among those present were Saleem Malik, Mohammad Hafeez and Aamir Sohail, while international umpire Aleem Dar, actor Khalid Abbas Dar and GCU Director Sports Muhammad Waseem also attended the event.

Old Ravians were led by ORU President Athar Ismail and posted 206 for 4 in their 20 overs. Athar Ismail made 46, Muhammad Ali struck a brisk 70 and Saleem Malik contributed 24 as the innings set a challenging target.

The Vice Chancellor XI, captained by GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry, matched the total to level the contest. Muhammad Ayaz anchored the chase with a century, guiding the side to 206 in the allotted overs and ensuring the trophy was shared.

Speaking after the fixture, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry said the gathering sent a clear message to current students about the enduring Ravian bond across generations and the importance of alumni engagement in GCU life. ORU President Athar Ismail added that the festival match is an opportunity for Old Ravians to reconnect with one another and their alma mater, and that participation by overseas alumni and leading cricketers underlined the unity of the Ravian community.

The shared result and lively turnout reflected both competitive cricket and the event’s role as a social reunion, reinforcing the Old Ravians tradition at GCU Lahore.
