Balochistan Launches Subsidized Electric Scooters Scheme
The Government of Balochistan and the National Bank of Pakistan signed a memorandum of understanding at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta to make electric scooters available on subsidized installments to students, working women and the wider public. The MoU ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, Provincial Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani, senior provincial officials and senior representatives from the National Bank of Pakistan.
Chief Minister Bugti described the programme as a major step to ensure safe, affordable and dignified commuting for students and working women. He said the scheme, supported by the bank, aims to ease daily travel for thousands while providing a practical financing option through subsidized installments.
Officials highlighted that the move is intended to encourage the adoption of electric scooters as an eco-friendly alternative that reduces travel costs and environmental impact. By promoting sustainable transport, the provincial government seeks to align urban and intercity mobility with cost-effective, low-emission solutions that benefit households across Balochistan.
The provincial leadership emphasized that the initiative reflects a broader focus on public welfare and inclusive development, with particular attention to empowering women and youth across the province. Chief Minister Bugti reiterated that the government will continue to roll out projects that deliver tangible benefits and support long-term economic and social progress.
