Strengthening Biomedical Waste Management in Islamabad
The Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority IHRA CEO Dr. Muhammad Zaeem Zia met with waste management representatives to review the handling of biomedical waste across the capital. He stressed the importance of upgrading waste management systems and ensuring incinerators operate efficiently so biomedical waste is disposed of safely.
Dr. Zia urged coordinated action among hospitals, clinics and private contractors, emphasising routine inspections, technical support and operator readiness to reduce risks linked to biomedical waste. The discussion focused on practical steps to maintain incinerator performance and strengthen day-to-day waste handling procedures.
