Rawalpindi Cantonment Board organised a fire safety awareness and training workshop aimed at preventing fire incidents, ensuring prompt emergency response, and safeguarding lives and property across the cantonment area. The event drew representatives from civic and business communities as well as emergency responders to reinforce practical fire safety measures.
The session included briefings on common causes of fires, preventive measures for homes and commercial buildings, correct handling and maintenance of fire-fighting equipment, and basic first aid techniques. Special attention was given to ensuring fire safety installations in plazas and multi-storey buildings within Rawalpindi Cantonment, including the need for clear emergency exits, visible signage, and other essential safety equipment to reduce risks.
Experts from Rescue 1122 delivered hands-on demonstrations showing the proper use of extinguishers and evacuation procedures, emphasising calm, strategic response rather than panic to minimise casualties and damage. The practical drills reinforced the workshop’s focus on actionable steps that residents and business owners can implement immediately to improve fire safety.
Zahid Iqbal Bakhtawari, nominated member of the Cantonment Board, underlined the importance of regular training and drills so that citizens and facility managers can take timely, well-informed actions during emergencies. He noted that sustained preparedness not only saves precious human lives but also helps protect valuable property from major losses.
Attendees included Chief Cantt Engineer Atiq-ur-Rehman, officials from Rescue 1122, representatives of Anjuman-e-Tajran Rawalpindi Cantt, and participants from various walks of life who described the workshop as informative and useful. The training concluded with a special prayer for those who lost their lives in the Gul Plaza tragedy and a shared commitment to continued awareness and regular fire safety training across the cantonment.
