Boosting Pakistani Access to Hungarian Scholarships
Chairman HEC Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar met with Dr. Zoltan Varga, Ambassador of Hungary to Pakistan, at the HEC Secretariat to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in higher education and academic exchanges.
The Chairman welcomed the Government of Hungary’s offer of up to 400 fully funded scholarships annually for Pakistani students at Bachelors, Masters and PhD levels and noted that these Hungarian scholarships present a significant opportunity for talented students across Pakistan. He also highlighted the successful resolution of the long-standing recognition issue for Hungarian engineering degrees by the Pakistan Engineering Council, a development that will directly benefit Pakistani engineering graduates and facilitate further academic collaboration.
The Hungarian Ambassador expressed a keen interest in engaging returning alumni and expanding partnerships in research, mobility, culture and archaeology, with particular focus on Pakistan’s ancient sites including Taxila, Harappa and Mohenjo Daro. He added that the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference is actively working with Pakistan’s Vice Chancellors’ Forum to strengthen institutional linkages and enable more direct university-to-university cooperation.
Chairman HEC assured full support in connecting relevant Pakistani institutions with Hungarian counterparts to deepen academic ties and make the most of the Hungarian scholarships on offer, stressing the importance of mobility and research collaboration for Pakistan’s higher education sector.
