Ahmed Baig Gears Up for $500k Bharath Classic
Ahmed Baig closed out the am green IGPL Morocco Rising Stars with a confident final round, posting a two-under 68 at Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort to finish tied for seventh and build clear momentum ahead of the $500,000 am green IGPL Bharath Classic. His closing 68 featured six birdies and just two bogeys, a display of the aggressive scoring that has become his trademark.
After opening with a one-over 73, Baig staged a strong recovery with a six-under 66 on Day 2 and followed with a disciplined 70 before the final 68. The sequence underlined his ability to respond under pressure and sharpen his ball-striking in international company. With slightly tighter short-game play and a few fewer bogeys, Ahmed Baig looks set to be among the frontrunners when the Asian Tour event tees off on June 4.
The week also offered a boost for Pakistani golf more broadly. Countryman Aadam Syed posted rounds of 71, 69, 70 and 70 to finish 20th, reinforcing Pakistan’s growing presence on these stages. Thailand’s Tanapat Pichaikool captured the title at 17-under, but the Moroccan stop served as an invaluable rehearsal for Pakistani contenders at the same coastal layout that hosts the upcoming Bahrath Classic.
Behind Baig’s rise are key pieces of support at home. Brigadier (Retd) Riaz Bajwa provided early guidance and structure that helped transform a self-taught talent into a professional competitor, while Lahore Garrison Greens Golf Club gave Baig crucial access to practice facilities. Those local contributions have been central to his progress and illustrate how targeted backing can produce international returns.
With the $500k Bharath Classic at Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort just days away, Ahmed Baig arrives with form, belief and a clear plan to convert his scoring bursts into a sustained title challenge. His Morocco performance will remain a reference point as he looks to turn promise into a landmark victory on the Asian Tour.
