Former Captain Not Happy with Pace Trio in Champions Trophy

Former captain Mohammad Hafeez criticized pace trio—Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf—for their lackluster performance against India in Dubai.

Speaking to the media, the former all-rounder voiced his frustration over the continued struggles of fast blowers since the 2023 Asia Cup.

He highlighted their underwhelming displays across major tournaments, including the ODI and T20 World Cups, as well as the Champions Trophy preparations.

Despite their talent, Hafeez stressed that they had yet to prove themselves in high-pressure matches and called for a change in the bowling lineup.

He urged selectors to consider Mohammad Ali, Khurram Shahzad, Wasim Jr., Akif Javed, and Mir Hamza as potential replacements.

Hafeez also questioned Babar Azam’s ability to deliver in crucial games, comparing his impact to that of former Pakistan great Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Assessing the trio’s performance in the event, Shaheen Afridi struggled, conceding 68 runs against New Zealand and 72 against India.

Naseem Shah managed two wickets versus New Zealand but remained wicketless in his eight-over spell against India.

Haris Rauf had an expensive outing, leaking 83 runs against New Zealand and 52 against India without taking a wicket.
