Dr Nikhat Shakeel Khan Reviews PEC Initiatives and Reforms

Parliamentary Secretary for Science and Technology Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan visited the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) headquarters to review ongoing reforms and pledged full support from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) for strengthening engineering standards. She was briefed on key initiatives undertaken by PEC, including global partnerships, technological enhancements, and educational campaigns aimed at elevating Pakistan’s engineering sector.

Chairman PEC, Engr. Waseem Nazir, alongside senior officers and departmental heads, warmly welcomed Dr. Khan and provided a detailed update on the council’s core projects and regulatory advancements. Among these significant initiatives, Chairman Nazir highlighted PEC’s successful renewal of its six-year membership in the International Professional Engineers Agreement (IPEA). He also underscored the PEC Digital Drive to digitize operations, a comprehensive curriculum revision effort, and the establishment of the Young Engineers National Forum aimed at empowering young professionals.

The Council presented their ambitious Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Training Plan, which targets providing specialized training for approximately 45,000 engineers. Additional progress shared included the establishment of university facilitation desks, continuing professional development (CPD) programs, the creation of a “brain gain” portal designed specifically for expatriate engineers, and various international collaborations, notably with China.

Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan lauded PEC’s forward-looking leadership, recognizing their transformative reforms as essential to aligning Pakistan’s engineering ecosystem with international best practices. She assured the full support and cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, affirming the government’s commitment to facilitate these ongoing enhancements.

Concluding her visit, Dr. Khan took a guided tour through the PEC Executive Chamber for Senior Engineers, applauding the council’s visionary direction and proactive efforts. As a gesture of appreciation, Chairman PEC Engr. Waseem Nazir presented Dr. Khan with a souvenir, further solidifying their collective commitment to advancing Pakistan’s engineering standards and global competitiveness.
