FIDIC Conference 2025 Highlights Sustainable Development in Pakistan

Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani underscored the importance of strong institutions and transparent systems for sustainable development during his keynote address as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) Asia-Pacific Mid-Year Conference 2025 in Islamabad. He highlighted accountability, international standards, and youth empowerment as crucial pillars for national progress.

In his remarks, Chairman Gilani emphasized that ensuring accountability processes is essential for public welfare and that robust, transparent institutions lay the foundation for sustainable growth. Reflecting on his tenure as Prime Minister, he noted his administration’s commitment to promoting public-private partnerships as a means of fostering economic development and innovation.

Gilani advocated for the creation of a favorable regulatory environment to support business and innovation, stressing that a modern, enabling framework is vital for attracting investment and encouraging entrepreneurship. He further assured that the Senate will continue to extend its full support to effective legislation in the engineering sector to meet contemporary challenges.

Highlighting the importance of transparency and adherence to international standards in infrastructure projects, the Chairman called for the prudent management of public resources, describing it as a critical need of the times. He expressed deep appreciation to development partners for their continued support and recognized the Association of Consulting Engineers Pakistan (ACEP) for bringing industry experts together at this event.

The Chairman noted the essential role of infrastructure—such as roads, bridges, and networks—not merely as construction achievements, but as foundational guarantees of progress and economic integration. He praised FIDIC for its integrity-driven global role within the engineering community and underscored that empowering young people remains a moral and strategic obligation for national leadership.

In his closing remarks, Gilani voiced optimism that the relationships fostered during the conference would pave the way toward constructive collaborations, further strengthening Pakistan’s journey toward sustainable and inclusive development.
