Condemning Honour Killing and Upholding Human Rights in Pakistan

**Summary:**
The Federal Minister for Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, has strongly condemned the brutal murder of a young woman in Deghari, Balochistan, allegedly carried out on the orders of a so-called jirga. He denounced the killing as a gross violation of human rights and Pakistani law, calling for swift and exemplary action against those responsible.
Addressing the incident, Senator Tarar described the act as “horrific and cold-blooded,” emphasizing that it has deeply shocked the nation’s collective conscience. He categorically dismissed any attempt to frame the crime as an ‘honour killing’, asserting that it is, in fact, “the murder of honour itself.” The minister stressed that no tradition, custom, or informal justice system can legitimate the killing of a woman for choosing to live according to her own wishes.
Senator Tarar stated that such barbaric acts have no place in a civilized society, highlighting the federal government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating inhuman practices and ensuring justice is served without delay. He urged the Government of Balochistan to take strict and exemplary measures against those responsible for the crime.
Reaffirming the government’s stance on human rights, the minister declared that Pakistan remains fully committed to upholding the dignity and rights of all citizens, pledging that perpetrators of such offenses will be held accountable under the law.
