Nursing Association Discusses Key Reforms with Health Minister

A high-level delegation from the Young Nurses Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (YNA KP), led by President Ms. Shaheen, held a productive meeting with Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal in Islamabad, where they discussed critical reforms needed to strengthen nursing and healthcare institutions across Pakistan. The meeting focused on modernizing health sector operations and ensuring the advancement of nursing standards nationwide.

The YNA KP delegation commended the Health Minister for his vision and commitment toward restructuring Pakistan’s healthcare system, placing special emphasis on transparency, efficiency, and innovation. The association highlighted the urgent need to align the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC) with international standards, recommending several reforms.

Key topics discussed included the digitalization of PNMC operations, elevating standards in nursing education, addressing challenges faced by nursing interns, eliminating corruption within PNMC, and establishing a robust oversight system for nursing educational institutions to ensure quality and accountability.

Delegates also voiced concerns regarding resistance from some employees in implementing the reform agenda set by elected members. They stressed that these reforms are essential to address the basic rights and longstanding issues facing nurses across the country.

YNA KP expressed gratitude to Minister Kamal for his time, open-minded approach, and positive response to their concerns and proposals. They noted that his encouragement has strengthened their resolve to continue advocating for meaningful nursing reforms.

The association reiterated its commitment to forming a strong national alliance by coordinating with provincial chapters and nursing associations across Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Plans are underway to convene a united nursing front in Islamabad and organize outreach visits to other provinces to advance progressive reforms and tackle pressing challenges facing the profession.

YNA KP called on all nurses and nursing leaders throughout Pakistan to remain united and steadfast in their collective struggle for a stronger, more respected nursing profession. The association also thanked district leaders for making time to attend this significant meeting and representing the voices of nurses from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
