PMAS-AAUR Observes Independence Day with Flag Hoisting, Tributes to Martyrs

RAWALPINDI: Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) observed Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with national spirit, enthusiasm and fervour on August 14, 2026.

A flag-hoisting ceremony and cake-cutting ceremony were held at the university as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman, Registrar, Deans, Directors, faculty members, administrative staff and a large number of children attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, Prof Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman said Independence Day was an occasion to remember the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifices for the creation and defence of Pakistan. He paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, his companions and associates, saying their steadfast struggle and sacrifices led to the establishment of Pakistan.

The Vice Chancellor said the armed forces of Pakistan were a source of strength and pride for the nation. Referring to Mark-e-Haq, he said Pakistan’s recent display of resolve and national unity had conveyed a clear message to its adversaries that the country was fully capable of defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He also described the recent Mecca Joint Defense Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye as an important development and a reflection of the confidence and trust friendly countries placed in Pakistan.

Speaking about the youth, Prof Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman said young people were the future of Pakistan and the nation had high expectations from them. He urged them to make constructive and productive use of modern technologies and to involve themselves in positive activities.

As part of the celebrations, the University Green Office, in collaboration with the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and Life Saver, also arranged an Islamabad sightseeing tour on a Double Decker bus. The Vice Chancellor, along with the Registrar, Deans, Directors, faculty members, administrative staff and children, participated in the tour and visited various landmarks of the federal capital.

Prof Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman appreciated the initiative and said such activities helped celebrate national occasions in a meaningful and memorable manner.

The celebrations concluded with special prayers for the martyrs of Pakistan, the security and prosperity of the country and the development of the nation.
