Russia Urges Dialogue Over Afghan Pakistan Border Tensions

Maria Zakharova of the Russian foreign ministry expressed concern over the clashes on the Afghan Pakistan border on Oct 10 and 11, noting that Kabul and Islamabad have provided differing accounts of the incidents and their causes.

Reports have described airstrikes and exchanges of fire that affected a large swath of the border region, including areas of the Pashtun tribal belt. Initial information indicates that military personnel on both sides suffered casualties in the confrontations.

Russian officials said the situation appears to be gradually stabilizing and welcomed any reduction in hostilities along the Afghan Pakistan border. The ministry highlighted the importance of preventing further escalation that could impact civilians and cross-border security.

Russia urged both capitals to exercise restraint and resolve disputes through political and diplomatic channels rather than force. The statement called for the early resumption of constructive dialogue between Afghanistan and Pakistan on counterterrorism cooperation and broader regional security matters.

The Russian appeal underscores concerns in Islamabad and Kabul about maintaining stability in border areas where local communities and security dynamics can quickly be affected. Continued diplomatic engagement, the statement suggested, is essential to address immediate tensions and support longer-term security coordination.
