Senate Committee Acts on Property Encroachments in Chamba House

The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works has affirmed its commitment to addressing illegal encroachments on government properties in accordance with the law. Chairman Senator Nasir Mehmood Butt, accompanied by Senator Pervaiz Rashid and other committee members, visited several sites affected by unauthorized occupation, including Chamba House, Wafaqi Colony, Federal lodges, and flats on Edgerton Road.
During a subsequent meeting at Chamba House, the committee discussed issues related to illegal occupation of government land and the operations of the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD). Senator Butt emphasized that relevant authorities have been asked to provide complete documentation regarding these properties, making it clear that neither unlawful possessions nor unlawful actions against occupants would be permitted.
Senator Butt reiterated that both the federal and provincial governments do not condone illegal encroachments. He highlighted that the Punjab government is already taking robust measures to tackle such cases. Addressing political concerns, the chairman stated that there are no political prisoners in the country under the current government’s tenure. He also commented on the legal challenges facing the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), noting that the PTI leader, who previously accused others, is now serving a 14-year sentence for corruption.
Senator Butt called on opposition parties to contribute positively and urged all political parties to prioritize the country’s development and prosperity over personal interests. The meeting was attended by Senators Niaz Ahmad, Muhammad Aslam Abro, Abdul Shakoor Khan, and other committee members.
