PMDC Clarifies After Driver Arrest Over Admission Scam

Islamabad 6 November 2025 — The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has rejected reports that a senior council official was arrested in connection with a medical college admission scam, stating that no officer or official of the Council has been detained by any law enforcement agency.

A PMDC spokesperson explained that the person apprehended by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was a driver assigned to the Council’s general pool, a low-ranked support staff member with no role in admissions, registration or policy matters. The individual had no access to operational sections or decision-making processes and was confined to general driving duties.

On receiving complaints, PMDC initiated an internal departmental inquiry and the employee was suspended from service with salary stopped in accordance with departmental procedures. The Council said it first learned of the detention through print and electronic media reports, which were then confirmed by the FIA.

PMDC reiterated that it has no role in the national admission process for medical and dental colleges, which remains the prerogative of provincial admitting universities. The Council affirmed it will extend full cooperation to the FIA and other relevant authorities to ensure the matter is investigated and justice is served in line with the law.

The Council underlined a strict zero-tolerance approach toward corruption, fraud and misuse of authority and stressed that it acted promptly to ensure internal accountability. PMDC also advised students and parents to avoid dealing with unauthorized intermediaries and to rely solely on official PMDC channels and platforms for admission-related information and guidance.
