Advancing Pakistan Iran Ties Through Parliamentary Action
The Executive Committee of the Pakistan–Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group, chaired by Syed Naveed Qamar, met with a visiting delegation from the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran in Islamabad on 6 November 2025. The Pakistani delegation included members of the Executive Committee such as Tahira Aurangzeb, Syed Ali Qasim Gillani, Pullain Baloch, Amjad Ali Khan and Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui. Leading the Iranian side, Fida Hussain Maliki chaired the visiting delegation which featured Mohammad Nour Dehghani, Rahmadel Bamiri, Mehrdad Goodarzvand Chegini and Fazlollah Ranjbar.
In his welcome remarks, the Convener reaffirmed the deep historical, cultural and religious bonds between the two neighbours and underlined the role of parliamentary engagement in strengthening Pakistan Iran ties. He stressed that sustained legislative exchanges act as an institutional channel to promote dialogue, deepen people-to-people linkages and advance cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, education and culture, while calling for regular reciprocal visits to maintain momentum on bilateral initiatives.
Mr. Maliki thanked his hosts for their hospitality and reiterated Iran’s intent to deepen inter-parliamentary cooperation. He urged practical steps to expand barter trade mechanisms, establish joint border markets and develop industrial and trade zones, and highlighted the need to raise current trade volumes through improved connectivity, including enhanced air links and maritime routes between the two countries.
The Iranian delegation also spoke of brotherly relations grounded in shared history and mutual respect, noting Pakistan’s principled stance and the resolutions adopted by both Houses of Parliament during the recent twelve-day conflict involving Iran. Delegates paid tribute to Allama Muhammad Iqbal for his intellectual legacy and acknowledged Pakistan’s continued vocal support for the people of Gaza.
Both sides agreed on the urgency of creating a structured framework for implementation, stressing that consistent institutional dialogue, timely communication and closer coordination between the Secretariats of the respective Friendship Groups are essential to delivering tangible results. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to reinforce regional peace, stability and prosperity and to translate parliamentary cooperation into expanded trade, economic and cultural linkages that strengthen Pakistan Iran ties.
