Dengue Control Sweep in Islamabad and Prevention Tips

District Health Office Islamabad, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, has stepped up citywide dengue control operations in high-risk neighborhoods, carrying out door-to-door surveillance, larval destruction, spraying, fogging and public awareness campaigns. Entomologist Qasim Shajra inspected parts of UC Barah Kahu to assess case-response activities and field teams’ performance, while the district administration is imposing heavy fines and filing FIRs against those violating standard operating procedures to curb the spread of dengue.

Health teams are conducting targeted sweep operations in identified high-risk areas and across the city. Staff are visiting homes to check for mosquito breeding sites, remove or treat standing water, apply larvicides where needed, and carry out spraying and fogging to reduce adult mosquito populations. Community awareness teams are also educating residents about prevention steps and encouraging cooperation with field crews.

Entomologist Qasim Shajra visited several neighborhoods in Union Council Barah Kahu to review case-response activities and evaluate the effectiveness of field operations. His assessment aims to strengthen on-the-ground dengue control measures and improve coordination among response teams.

The district administration has warned that violations of standard operating procedures will be met with strict penalties. Heavy fines are being levied against offenders, and FIRs are being registered in serious cases, as authorities seek to enforce compliance and reduce transmission risks.

Residents are being asked to take simple, practical steps to protect themselves and their families:
Clean water containers, tanks, plant saucers and coolers daily to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
Wear long-sleeved clothing to reduce skin exposure to mosquito bites.
Use insect repellent sprays or lotions on exposed skin.
Install and use mosquito nets while sleeping.
Fit screens on windows and doors to keep mosquitoes out.

Authorities stress that dengue prevention requires community cooperation and vigilance. Residents are urged to follow the recommended precautions and cooperate with health teams to help contain the outbreak.
