A Look at Babar Azam’s Performance Against Spin in ODI

Star Pakistani batter Babar Azam is widely regarded as one of the most talented players to have ever represented Pakistan.

The former captain has established himself as a key figure in ODI cricket, frequently drawing comparisons with some of the best modern-day batters.

His consistent performances in the 50-over format earned him a top spot in the ICC ODI rankings for several years, until Shubman Gill recently overtook him.

However, a closer analysis of Babar’s performances against spin bowling highlights a noticeable change in his form.

Before December 2021, Babar maintained an impressive average of 51.72 and a strike rate of 88.49 when facing spin in ODIs. His record against away spin was even more remarkable, with an average of 143.33 and a strike rate of 91.00.

Since January 2022, however, Babar’s form against spin has taken a sharp decline.

His overall average has dropped to 21.80, with a strike rate of 67.65. Against spin, his average has plummeted to 65.20, while his strike rate stands at 90.05.
