Advancing International Collaboration in Agricultural Research

Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) has initiated formal research collaboration with four Canadian universities as part of a wider effort to align postgraduate programs with international standards and expand cooperation to the United States and Europe. The move underlines the university’s push toward greater international engagement in agricultural research.

Professor Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, Vice Chancellor of PMAS-AAUR, said the emphasis is shifting from traditional studies to problem-solving research that addresses challenges faced by industry and farmers. He noted that this International Collaboration will bring lecture series and joint activities designed to connect local research with global best practices.

The Directorate of Advanced Studies organized an awareness and orientation session for postgraduate students to explain the university’s research framework and strengthen research capabilities. Special training was provided on essential components of the research process including literature review, materials and methods, data analysis, and proper citation in the literature cited section.

The Vice Chancellor urged students to direct their research toward tangible benefits for Pakistan’s national economy and agricultural sector, stressing that the university is taking concrete measures to promote research, enhance training, and offer mentorship. He added that the lecture series based on international collaboration will help raise academic standards and bolster Pakistan’s academic reputation abroad.

At the event, the Postgraduate Research Review and Evaluation Committee delivered a presentation and participants received a detailed briefing about the upcoming poster session scheduled for February 2026, offering students an opportunity to showcase their work to faculty and external partners.

Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman also highlighted the importance of adhering to ethical principles and strict quality assurance in all research activities. The session closed with an interactive dialogue between faculty and students in which practical suggestions were exchanged to further improve research quality and ensure the International Collaboration yields measurable benefits for agriculture and industry in Pakistan.
