Pakistan and Sweden Strengthen Bilateral Ties through Inaugural Parliamentary Friendship Group

The inaugural session of the Pakistan–Sweden Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) was held in Islamabad, marking a significant step in enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries. The meeting aimed to foster stronger parliamentary cooperation, promote people-to-people connections, and explore opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

The briefing was convened at Parliament House under the chairmanship of Member of National Assembly Muhammad Khan Daha. Key members of the Friendship Group, including Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, Ahmed Raza Maneka, Shahnaz Saleem Malik, Umair Khan Niazi, and Miqdad Ali Khan, participated in the session. The agenda focused on evaluating current bilateral dynamics and exploring avenues to deepen engagement.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Sweden, along with senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Commerce, provided comprehensive briefings. These covered the status of diplomatic relations, existing trade and investment opportunities, and ongoing efforts to facilitate tourist visas, with an emphasis on easing travel for citizens of both countries.

A notable proposal from Muhammad Khan Daha was the establishment of a counterpart Parliamentary Friendship Group within the Swedish Parliament. This initiative aims to institutionalize parliamentary dialogues, making bilateral cooperation more structured and sustainable. Members highlighted the importance of enhancing cultural exchanges and increasing inter-parliamentary collaboration. They also expressed a collective commitment to advancing Pakistan–Sweden relations via formal communication channels and shared platforms.

The session concluded with members reaffirming their dedication to strengthening diplomatic ties, encouraging ongoing initiatives by Pakistan’s diplomatic missions, and promoting greater cooperation at all levels to foster a mutually beneficial relationship between Pakistan and Sweden.
