Rawalpindi Constructions Banned in Commercial Areas

Raawalpindi Cantonment Board Launches Crackdown on Unauthorized Constructions in the Central Business District
The Raawalpindi Cantonment Board has initiated a comprehensive operation to remove illegal encroachments in the city’s key commercial areas, including Hazara Road, Adam G. Road, Kashmir Road, Cheecha Bazar, Kinning Road, Bank Road, and Gawalmandi. The campaign aims to ensure smooth flow of traffic, enhance public convenience, and maintain the aesthetic appeal of the bustling markets. Local authorities have emphasized that no unauthorized constructions or encroachments will be tolerated in the vicinity of the central business district.
Under the directives of Additional CEO Arshad Khan and Enforcement Incharge Raja Nadeem, the operation was carried out vigorously in various markets and trading hubs. Multiple carts, stalls, and pushcarts that had been set up outside shops were confiscated during the crackdown. The authorities also issued several notices to shopkeepers involved in unauthorized encroachments. The operation targeted prominent markets such as Kashmiri Road, Hazara Road, Mithi Khan Atta, Railway Road, and Gawalmandi, with the removal of approximately ten truckloads of confiscated goods from the Central Market area.
In addition to the removal of encroachments, a crackdown against beggars in the local markets is also underway to curb illegal begging and protect the commercial environment. Authorities have made it clear that begging in public spaces will not be tolerated under any circumstances, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring safety and convenience for shoppers and traders alike.
Cantonment Board officials have reiterated that the prohibition on unauthorized encroachments applies to all areas within the cantonment, especially the main commercial thoroughfares. Strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to set up unauthorized structures or stalls. The operation is being conducted in two shifts to cover all critical zones, with direct supervision to ensure transparency and effectiveness.
Local traders and citizens have responded positively to the crackdown, appreciating the Cantonment Board’s efforts to keep the markets clean and accessible. The primary goal of these measures is to remove obstacles that hinder smooth business activities and to provide a safe, clean environment for shoppers. Traders have been warned to refrain from installing any form of encroachments in front of their shops, with severe penalties announced for violations.
The Cantonment Board continues to work diligently to keep the city’s commercial areas free of encroachments, ensuring that public spaces remain accessible and organized for the benefit of the community.
