A delegation of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), led by President Atif Ikram Sheikh, held a meeting with Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, to discuss ways of enhancing port performance and maritime infrastructure, along with addressing issues of mutual interest and fostering investment in the blue economy.
The FPCCI delegation included President Atif Ikram Sheikh, Chairman of PCMA Sheikh Umar Rehan, Malik Sohail Hussain, and Kunwar Qutbuddin Khan. Together, they presented the concerns and issues faced by the business community in maritime trading operations, highlighting the importance of resolving these hurdles promptly for the sustained growth and economic stability of the country.
Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry commended the vital role played by the private sector in maritime development and acknowledged their contribution towards strengthening the national economy. He assured FPCCI delegates that the government was committed to resolving the concerns of traders and industrialists in order to stimulate maritime trade and overall economic growth.
FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh pointed out that Pakistan provides the most suitable sea trade route for Central Asian countries, making it crucial to enhance port infrastructure and maritime capabilities. He stressed that significant foreign exchange revenues could be realised by improving port facilities and promoting maritime trade aggressively.
Sheikh emphasized the necessity of installing modern equipment and machinery at ports to significantly reduce customs clearance times, thereby facilitating smoother and quicker business activities. Such improvements, he argued, are essential for realizing the vision of a strong economy and dynamic maritime commerce sector.
