Romanian Foreign Minister Reaffirms Unwavering Support for Moldova’s EU Integration During Official Visit
Romania’s Foreign Minister, Oana Țoiu, has renewed her country’s robust commitment to supporting Moldova’s European Union integration during a high-level diplomatic mission in Chișinău. The visit included meetings with Moldova’s President Maia Sandu, Parliamentary President Igor Grosu, and Prime Minister Dorin Recean, reflecting the close diplomatic ties and shared aspirations of the neighboring countries.
Central to Minister Țoiu’s visit were extensive consultations with Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mihai Popșoi. Following these talks, both officials issued joint statements emphasizing the shared priorities and enduring nature of Romania–Moldova relations. Their discussions centered on Moldova’s progress in its EU accession process, as well as ongoing cooperation in energy, infrastructure, culture, language, and cross-border trade.
Underscoring Romania’s steadfast political backing, Minister Țoiu conveyed the unified support of Romanian President Nicolae Ciucă, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, and the entire Romanian government. She highlighted the deep historical and cultural connections between the two nations, united by language and heritage, as a foundation for their collaborative efforts.
A key focus of the visit was the advancement of strategic infrastructure projects, including the Suceava–Bălți and Vulcănești–Chișinău energy interconnections. These initiatives, alongside joint investments, are designed to enhance Moldova’s energy independence and resilience, reducing its vulnerability to external shocks and strengthening its integration with European systems.
In a meeting with representatives of Romanian businesses active in Moldova, Minister Țoiu reaffirmed her government’s dedication to deepening economic ties and encouraging cross-border entrepreneurship. The discussions showcased the positive impact of Romanian investments in Moldova, benefiting citizens and enterprises on both sides of the border.
Regional security was another key component of the agenda. Against the backdrop of ongoing geopolitical uncertainties, Romanian and Moldovan officials reiterated their commitment to coordinated efforts against hybrid threats and to ensuring the stability of the region at a crucial juncture for Moldova’s EU ambitions.
