**CDA Reviews Progress on Islamabad’s Major Development Projects, Prioritizes City’s Modernization**
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to upgrading Islamabad’s infrastructure and raising the standard of living for its residents. At a high-level meeting chaired by Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the progress of several key development projects was reviewed, with a focus on expediting completion and ensuring transparent, high-quality work.
Senior CDA officials from various departments—including Administration, Environment, Finance, Planning, and Engineering—joined the meeting, as did senior representatives from municipal and law enforcement bodies. The agenda featured updates on major infrastructure undertakings such as the upgrades of Shaheen Chowk, Kashmir Chowk, the Faizabad Interchange, the improvement of the Pakistan Secretariat, and the installation of modern street lighting across the city.
Chairman Randhawa highlighted that road infrastructure remains a top priority, with efforts underway not only to renovate major avenues but also to construct new roads and underpasses to alleviate traffic congestion. He also underscored continuing initiatives aimed at urban beautification and enhancement of recreational amenities. These include restoration of 25 football and 25 cricket grounds, the creation of paddle courts, and improvements to pedestrian bridges.
To ensure the effective implementation of the citywide street lighting initiative, the chairman announced the formation of a dedicated committee. This multi-departmental body—comprising officials from Engineering, Environment, Finance, Sanitation, Law Enforcement, Estate Management, and other relevant agencies—will be responsible for inspecting all major roadways, overseeing upgrades, coordinating maintenance, and supervising landscaping and horticultural enhancements.
The meeting also reviewed the construction of the Blue Area Parking Plaza, a key component of efforts to address commercial parking shortages. It was noted that installation of lifts has been completed, and the chairman instructed that remaining electrical, mechanical, and safety installations be finalized promptly to open the facility to the public.
Chairman Randhawa reiterated that all ongoing development work will be carried out transparently and to the highest standards, reflecting the city’s status as Pakistan’s modern capital. He emphasized the CDA’s resolve to deliver on its mandate of sustainable urban development, which also includes projects such as the establishment of Islamabad Model Jail, upgradation of police stations, development of a Blue Area food street, and recreational projects like a Safari Park, Theme Park, cable car, Ferris wheel, and the installation of dancing fountains.
Throughout the meeting, officials stressed the importance of adherence to timelines and the delivery of quality services to the people of Islamabad. The CDA’s ongoing development drive is set to further enhance the city’s urban landscape and residents’ quality of life.
