Karachi Special Economic Zone Driving Industrial Growth

Federal Minister for Planning, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, chaired a review meeting to assess progress on establishing a 500-acre Special Economic Zone (SEZ) near Karachi. The project, with an investment of Rs. 7 billion, aims to provide advanced infrastructure of international standards to create an attractive, conducive, and business-friendly environment for both local and international investors.
During the meeting, officials emphasized that the development of this SEZ is a crucial step towards the revival of industry and the promotion of exports in Pakistan. It is also designed to enhance quality employment opportunities, significantly contributing to the national economy.
The project aligns with the government’s comprehensive ‘5Es’ framework, particularly focusing on the pillars of Exports and Equity & Empowerment. Under this approach, special attention will be given to value-added manufacturing intended to reduce dependency on imports and broaden the scope of Pakistani exports.

He expressed optimism that this initiative would play a pivotal role in transforming the city’s economic landscape and enhancing its contribution to the overall prosperity of the nation.
