Cricket Revolution in Sindh: Over 15,000 Youths Join PMYP-Lahore Qalandars Talent Hunt in Larkana and Sukkur
A wave of cricketing passion swept through Larkana and Sukkur as more than 15,000 young players participated in the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) – Lahore Qalandars Talent Hunt trials, marking a historic moment for grassroots sports development in Pakistan. The overwhelming response over two action-packed days in each city reaffirmed that the heartbeat of Pakistan’s cricketing future lies in its overlooked and underrepresented regions.
This pioneering collaboration between the Government of Pakistan and Lahore Qalandars is not merely a talent hunt—it is a nationwide movement to democratize cricket. It is reshaping the landscape of the sport by reaching the untapped potential in far-flung cities and offering equal opportunities to both boys and girls. From the moment the trials began, cricket grounds in Larkana and Sukkur were transformed into arenas of ambition, echoing with the cheers and determination of young dreamers ready to seize their chance.
In Larkana, over 7,000 hopefuls arrived in droves, braving the summer sun with grit and enthusiasm. Sukkur exceeded expectations with an even larger turnout of more than 8,000 participants, making it one of the most successful stops in the national campaign to date. With every ball bowled and every shot played, the cities witnessed a spectacle of raw talent and relentless energy.
Speaking at the conclusion of the trials, Lahore Qalandars CEO Atif Rana praised the exceptional turnout and spirit of the youth. “What we witnessed in Larkana and Sukkur was nothing short of extraordinary,” he remarked. “This is a cricket revolution. These young boys and girls came not just with passion, but with discipline, skill, and hunger to grow. The Prime Minister’s Youth Program has made it possible for us to tap into this hidden treasure.”
Rana emphasized that the program was not a one-time event, but a long-term commitment to nurturing future stars. He announced plans to form five regional teams in Sindh, providing ongoing training, exposure, and professional pathways for selected players. “We are here to build sustainable cricketing pipelines that can transform lives. Our mission is simple: give every talented player a fair shot at glory, no matter where they come from.”
For the young participants, the trials were more than a chance to play—they were a life-changing experience. For many, it was the first time they stood in front of professional selectors under structured supervision. One young girl from Larkana summed up the emotion felt by many: “This opportunity has changed my life. No one ever came to ask about our talent before. Now I believe I can make it to the national team one day.”
Participants and families alike expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the PMYP leadership, and Lahore Qalandars for bringing this transformative platform to their communities. The trials rekindled hope, sparked ambition, and gave countless young cricketers something that had long been missing—recognition and a reason to believe in their dreams.
As the PMYP-Lahore Qalandars Talent Hunt moves forward, the message from Sindh is clear: Pakistan’s next cricketing superstars are rising, and they are ready to take flight from every corner of the country.
