Senate Advances Pakistan Rwanda Ties

A high-level Senate delegation from Pakistan completed an official visit to Kigali from October 13 to 15, 2025, aimed at strengthening Pakistan Rwanda ties through targeted parliamentary diplomacy and sectoral cooperation.

The delegation was led by Senator Kamran Murtaza, Convener of the Pakistan-Rwanda Friendship Group, and included Senator Bushra Anjum Butt and Senator Jan Muhammad. Over three days the team held extensive discussions with members of the Rwandan Parliament and senior government officials to identify practical steps for deeper collaboration.

Meetings focused on enhancing cooperation in trade, education, technology and agriculture, alongside structured parliamentary exchanges. The delegation highlighted commitments already underway, including the establishment of resident High Commissions and a series of recently signed MoUs covering diplomatic training, trade facilitation and political consultations.

The visit reflected Pakistan’s Engage Africa policy and emphasised the role of inter-parliamentary links in building people-to-people ties, policy exchange and shared development projects. Delegates expressed admiration for Rwanda’s recovery and unity and discussed how lessons from Rwanda’s experience might inform Pakistan’s development partnerships.

Senator Kamran Murtaza remarked ‘This visit is a testament to the growing friendship between Pakistan and Rwanda. We are confident that our countries, though geographically distant, are deeply connected by shared aspirations for peace, progress, and prosperity.’

The Senate delegation identified promising areas for cooperation including digital innovation, expanded education exchange programmes, trade in agricultural produce and pharmaceuticals, and sports initiatives with soccer cited as an accessible connector for youth engagement. Officials signalled follow-up action to convert dialogues into concrete projects and partnerships.

Pakistan anticipates hosting reciprocal parliamentary exchanges and joint programmes that will translate the outcomes of the Kigali visit into lasting South–South cooperation and mutual development gains, reinforcing Pakistan Rwanda ties for the years ahead.
