Birth Registration Online Pilot in Batkhela and Haripur

Director General NADRA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Khalid Inayatullah met with Medical Superintendent Dr. Qasim Afridi at the District Headquarters Hospital in Batkhela to review progress on a birth-registration initiative. Officials discussed steps to boost registration rates and address factors causing declines, and confirmed that a pilot online registration scheme is already operating at DHQ Batkhela and Haripur. Once fully implemented, the project will allow births and deaths to be registered at the union council level via a mobile app from residents’ homes.

During the meeting, authorities assessed the ongoing rollout of the birth-registration project and reviewed implementation milestones. The discussion focused on operational progress and identifying barriers that have been limiting timely registration of births in the district.

Participants exchanged ideas on measures to increase registration uptake and to control factors contributing to lower registration trends. The talks covered plans to streamline processes, enhance outreach, and make registration services more accessible to families.

NADRA, the Department of Health, and local government agencies are jointly running a pilot for online birth registration. The pilot is currently providing services at the District Headquarters Hospital in Batkhela and in Haripur as part of phased implementation.

Under the full implementation plan, union councils will offer the capability to register births and deaths through a mobile application, enabling residents to complete registrations from home. Officials said the system is intended to improve coverage, reduce delays, and simplify access to vital registration services.
