HPV Vaccine Campaign in Pakistan Emphasizes Media Role

The Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Pakistan, in collaboration with Jhpiego, held a media briefing to introduce the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and to outline an upcoming nationwide HPV vaccination campaign. Health officials and experts urged the media to help raise public awareness and ensure accurate information reaches communities, emphasizing the vaccine’s role in protecting young girls from cervical cancer.

The briefing presented the HPV vaccine as a key preventive tool against cervical cancer, with officials describing the campaign’s goal to expand vaccine coverage and reduce future disease burden. Organizers stressed that successful uptake depends on clear communication about vaccine safety, eligibility, and the benefits of timely immunization.

Media representatives from the capital and Azad Jammu and Kashmir attended the session, where experts highlighted common misconceptions and the importance of addressing community concerns. They called for consistent, evidence-based messaging across outlets to counter misinformation and build public trust.

The District Health Officer Islamabad underscored the urgency of protecting young girls through prompt vaccination and praised the media for its crucial role in informing the public.
