UNICEF and Balochistan Unite for Child Polio Eradication

UNICEF’s Representative in Pakistan, Pernille Ironside, visited Balochistan to strengthen cooperation with the provincial government on improving the lives of children. During her inaugural trip to the province, Ironside met with Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti to reaffirm UNICEF’s ongoing partnership and commitment to advancing child rights and wellbeing in the region.

As part of her visit, Ironside participated in the active polio immunization campaign in Quetta, where she joined health workers in the field and vaccinated children under the age of five. Her hands-on involvement emphasized UNICEF’s dedication to protecting every child in Pakistan from polio, a preventable but persistent disease in the country.

The visit also underscored collaboration between UNICEF, provincial authorities, and the Pakistan Polio Eradication Initiative to reach vulnerable populations, especially in Balochistan. UNICEF continues to support ongoing efforts by providing resources, expertise, and advocacy to ensure that all children in the province have access to vital healthcare and immunization services.
