Pakistan Malaysia Agri Exports Grow with Value Addition

Pakistan will seek to expand agricultural exports to Malaysia by focusing on innovation, value addition and technical cooperation, following a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain in Islamabad. Officials from relevant ministries and departments reviewed proposals and finalised the agenda for the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to Malaysia, with an emphasis on trade, technology and food security collaboration.
The committee examined ways to boost Pakistan’s agricultural exports to Malaysia, identifying Halal meat, rice, fruits and value-added agro-based products as priority items. Participants discussed market requirements in Malaysia and the need for targeted strategies to meet those standards and increase market share.
Ministry officials highlighted Pakistan’s comparative advantage as a major producer of agricultural commodities and stressed the potential to supply high-quality food products to Malaysian consumers. Improving product quality and complying with Halal certification and other regulatory requirements were discussed as critical steps for market access.
Rana Tanveer Hussain underscored the importance of diversifying Pakistan’s export base and enhancing the international competitiveness of the agricultural sector. He emphasised that modern research, innovation and value addition are essential to meet global standards, raise export value and deepen market penetration.
The committee agreed to pursue technical cooperation and knowledge-sharing with Malaysia to boost productivity and strengthen food security. Discussions covered collaboration on research, farming practices and technologies that could improve yields and sustainability across Pakistan’s agricultural value chains.
Plans were also made to organise a Pakistan-Malaysia Business Summit during the Prime Minister’s visit. The summit is intended to create B2B linkages between Pakistani agricultural producers, food exporters and Malaysian investors, opening new commercial opportunities, particularly in the Halal food market.
Officials said the summit and related initiatives aim to create long-term partnerships in food security, research and sustainable farming practices, while delivering commercial benefits to farmers and agribusinesses.
Concluding the meeting, Rana Tanveer Hussain reaffirmed the government’s commitment to an agriculture-led export strategy and expressed confidence that the Malaysia visit will strengthen bilateral ties and contribute to the prosperity of Pakistan’s farmers and the national economy.
