Driving Green Building Reforms in Punjab
Secretary EP&CCD Ms. Silwat Saeed chaired a meeting to review sustainable construction practices and proposed regulatory changes aimed at accelerating Green Building adoption across the province. The session brought senior environmental and planning officials together to examine practical measures that could be introduced through provincial regulations.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Project Director of the Special Projects and Implementation Unit, who outlined current challenges in implementation and compliance. Participants discussed updating building standards, promoting energy efficiency, encouraging sustainable materials, and strengthening monitoring to ensure proposed Green Building measures deliver measurable benefits.
Officials explored next steps including drafting regulatory options and engaging stakeholders for technical input. The focus on Green Building reflects a provincial effort to align construction practices with air quality and climate objectives, with potential to reduce emissions and improve urban living conditions if the proposed changes are advanced and implemented.
