UNICEF Advisory Council Drives Action for Children

The UNICEF Pakistan Advisory Council convened its second meeting in Peshawar, bringing together council members under the chairmanship of Pernille Ironside, UNICEF Representative in Pakistan, and leading philanthropist Murtaza Hashwani, with the session hosted by business leader Affan Aziz. The meeting reinforced the role of the UNICEF Advisory Council in galvanising public and private support for children’s priorities across Pakistan.

Members reflected on progress since the council’s inaugural meeting and took part in structured discussions on priority areas including health and nutrition, education, WASH, child protection, youth engagement and climate. Delegates exchanged perspectives on practical interventions and partnership opportunities that can accelerate results for children at national and local levels.

Throughout the session the UNICEF Advisory Council emphasised collaborative action and agreed on next steps to amplify their collective influence in support of children’s rights. Council members committed to follow-up engagement that will translate discussion into measurable support for programmes and advocacy across Pakistan.

Holding the meeting in Peshawar highlighted the council’s intent to remain connected to regional dynamics and to ensure that the UNICEF Advisory Council’s efforts reflect the needs of children in diverse communities. The council will continue to convene stakeholders from philanthropy, business and civil society to strengthen momentum on the agreed priorities.
