Celebrating Romanian Armed Forces on 25 October

Each year on 25 October Romania marks a day dedicated to the Romanian Armed Forces, a national moment to honour service and sacrifice. Although a formal day of commemoration is relatively recent, the roots of Romania’s military tradition reach back to the reestablishment of armed forces in 1830 and the creation of the modern army after the 1859 union.

The selection of 25 October carries deep historical meaning because on that date in 1944 the Romanian Army liberated the last Romanian territory during the Second World War. That event became a lasting symbol of liberation, national dignity and the collective remembrance of fallen heroes.

Today the Romanian Armed Forces also play a significant role within NATO and the European Union. During the accession process and afterwards Romania contributed to interoperability standards and deployed forces and capabilities in multiple operations and missions, adding national traditions and professional experience to multinational endeavours.

The armed forces enjoy broad public trust and are regarded as a cornerstone institution responsible for territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty. Public ceremonies on 25 October bring together service members and civilians to pay tribute and to reaffirm civic respect for those who serve.

For readers in Pakistan the observance underscores how a modern military balances historical memory with international commitments while maintaining public confidence. On this day a respectful salute is offered to all veterans and to the Romanian Armed Forces personnel who paid the ultimate price in defence of their country.
