PTI Punjab Defends Press Freedom After Police Attack
A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Punjab delegation led by party spokesperson Dr Ali Imran Advocate visited the National Press Club in Islamabad on the instructions of Chief Organizer Alia Hamza to protest recent violence against journalists. The delegation included Senior Vice President Zafar Iqbal Gondal, Vice President Chaudhry Nazir and other provincial leaders who condemned the Islamabad Police for entering the press club and carrying out what they described as brutal attacks and vandalism against working journalists.
Dr Ali Imran said journalists are the mirror of society and must be allowed to carry out coverage without fear. He criticized the police action inside the National Press Club as an unacceptable breach of safety and basic rights and reiterated that PTI Punjab stands firmly with the journalist community. The delegation promised to provide legal and moral assistance to affected reporters and pledged to raise their voice at every available forum for the protection of press freedom.
National Press Club Secretary Near Ali thanked Chief Organizer Alia Hamza and the PTI Punjab delegation for their visit and support, calling the press club the largest bastion and refuge for public expression. He warned that if attacks on journalists and press institutions continue, no press club in the country will remain secure. Both PTI Punjab and press club officials said they will monitor developments closely and pursue accountability to safeguard press freedom and journalists’ safety in Islamabad and across the province.
