SICAS Punjab Junior Tennis Championship Kicks Off

The SICAS Punjab Junior Tennis Championship 2025 got under way at the Punjab Tennis Academy in Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore, with SEVP of PLTA Mr. Rashid Malik formally inaugurating the event and extending his best wishes to all participants. Mr. Malik encouraged the young competitors to continue working with zeal and passion to become a source of pride for Pakistan.

The opening ceremony attracted a wide local turnout of players, parents, coaches and media, and included former Davis Cup player Mr. Haseeb Aslam, SICAS Director of Sports Mr. Shaheen Butt and tournament organiser Mr. Faheem Siddiqui. SICAS Director Mr. Shehryar Salamat also expressed appreciation for Rashid Malik’s continued support and promotion of tennis, noting how the Punjab Junior Tennis Championship plays a key role in developing homegrown talent.

Competition began immediately, with decisive results across age groups. In boys U-18 first round action Ameer Khokhar defeated Murtaza Hassan 6-0, Zayd Mansoor beat Hany Qadeer 6-0, M Umar Ali overcame Ahmad Khuda Bakhsh 6-0, Ohad e Mustafa downed Haroon Arif 2-0 and Aliyan Ali prevailed over Hassan Alam 6-1.

Boys U-14 matches produced competitive ties as Romail Shahid beat Abdullah Khaliq 6-0, Ayan Khan advanced when Ahmad Khuda Bakhsh retired with a 3-2 scoreline, Mustafa Uzair Khan defeated Kublie Sheikh 6-0, Daniyal Afzal Malik won 6-4 against Ismail Daha and Shahzain Faisal edged out Zayd Mansoor 6-2.

In boys U-12 first round play Daniyal Abdullah recorded a 6-0 victory over Tanzeel Sajjad, Rashid beat Mustafa Zia 6-2, Uzair Khan won 6-3 against Mamnoon Bari and Pirzada Wajih beat M Ehsan Bari 6-0. These opening-day results underline the depth of junior talent on display as the Punjab Junior Tennis event progresses through its schedule.

Organisers said more competitive fixtures are expected in the coming days as the championship continues at the academy, offering a platform for young players across the province to test their skills and gain valuable match experience.
