Nationwide Polio Campaign Mobilizes 400000 Workers
The National Emergency Operations Centre has launched a major polio campaign that will reach more than 45 million children under five across all provinces and regions of Pakistan. Over 400,000 trained polio workers will visit homes and health facilities to deliver oral polio drops as part of this coordinated national drive.
The drive will also include Vitamin A supplements alongside the oral polio vaccine to boost children’s immune systems and improve protection against a range of preventable illnesses. Health teams will work day-to-day in urban and rural settings to ensure every eligible child is offered a dose during the campaign period.
Provincial and regional targets have been set to focus resources where they are most needed. In Punjab the campaign aims to vaccinate more than 23 million children, Sindh will cover over 10.6 million, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa about 7.2 million and Balochistan approximately 2.6 million. Teams in Islamabad will reach roughly 460,000 children, Azad Jammu and Kashmir about 760,000, and Gilgit-Baltistan nearly 280,000.
The NEOC stressed that sustained participation in the polio campaign is essential to protect children and keep Pakistan on track to eliminate poliovirus. Authorities appealed directly to parents to make sure every child under five receives the oral polio drops during the campaign and to complete the full routine immunization schedule to safeguard long-term health.
Local health officials say the success of the campaign depends on community cooperation and the efforts of the large team of polio workers deployed nationwide. The NEOC reiterated that the combined vaccination and Vitamin A supplementation effort is a critical step toward a polio-free Pakistan.
