Parliament AI Chatbot Boosts Legislative Access

Mr. Hafeezullah Sheikh, Special Secretary of the Senate of Pakistan, addressed the ASGP/IPU session in Geneva and outlined Pakistan’s strides in converting its Parliament into a modern, resilient and citizen-centric institution.

He noted with pride that Pakistan’s Parliament is the first in the world to run entirely on solar energy, a milestone that underlines the country’s commitment to environmental sustainability and clean governance.

Mr. Sheikh announced that, under the leadership and guidance of Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founding President of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, the Senate has initiated development of an AI Chatbot. The AI Chatbot is being designed to give Members of Parliament and staff instant access to legislative records, committee reports and past debates, improving efficiency, transparency and responsiveness in the lawmaking process.

Mr. Hafeezullah Sheikh also recorded a personal milestone by addressing the ASGP/IPU forum for a second time, becoming the first Pakistani officer to do so. He first spoke at the platform in 2024, and to date only two Pakistanis have been invited to address this distinguished global forum.

These forward-looking measures — from full solar operation to the deployment of an AI Chatbot — reflect the Senate’s determination to embrace technology, strengthen institutional transparency and set new global benchmarks in parliamentary innovation and public service.
