Reinventing Osteoporosis Management in Pakistan

Quaid-i-Azam University’s Department of Pharmacy partnered with PharmaEvo (Pvt.) Ltd. to host a focused session on osteoporosis, highlighting prevention, early diagnosis, evidence-based treatment and lifestyle measures to protect bone health across Pakistan.

Dr. Salma Malik, Director of External Linkages at QAU, attended as chief guest and praised the collaboration between academia and industry for strengthening healthcare education and public awareness on bone disease. She underlined the need for coordinated efforts to promote early intervention and population-level screening in the Pakistani context.

Eminent clinicians shared practical guidance on state-of-the-art care. Prof. Dr. Syeda Batool Mazhar (MRCOG, FRCOG, FCPS), former head at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, and Brig. (R) Dr. Amer Fakhr (FCPS Med, FRCP Med, OJT Rheumatology) from Pak Emirates Military Hospital Rawalpindi presented the latest evidence-based approaches for osteoporosis management and engaged attendees in an interactive discussion on tailoring therapy and prevention strategies to local needs.

Prof. Dr. Tofeeq ur Rehman, chairman of the Department of Pharmacy, commended the speakers, the organizing committee and PharmaEvo for their role in translating academic knowledge into clinical and community impact. He highlighted PharmaEvo’s ongoing commitment to bridge gaps between research, clinical practice and public health outreach.

The event reinforced the importance of early detection, appropriate pharmacologic treatment when indicated, and sustained lifestyle changes such as nutrition and weight-bearing activity to reduce fracture risk. Continued academic–industry collaboration, as demonstrated by QAU and PharmaEvo, aims to strengthen osteoporosis management and public education across Pakistan.
