Pakistan’s Diplomatic Duty: Championing the Kashmiri Cause on Every Global Platform.

Pakistan’s Diplomatic Duty: Championing the Kashmiri Cause on Every Global Platform.

The conflict over Kashmir has been one of the world’s most pressing and unsolved issues for more than 70 years. It is a matter of justice, human rights, and the right of a people to determine their own fate, not just a territorial dispute between India and Pakistan. Since the Modi-led government illegally repealed Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019, the situation in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir has worsened, turning it into an open-air prison characterized by systematic human rights violations, mass detentions, communication blackouts, and demographic engineering. In light of this somber situation, Pakistan’s position as the spokesperson for the Kashmiri people has evolved from a moral requirement to a diplomatic duty.
The Legal and Moral Basis
Pakistan’s dedication to the cause of Kashmir is rooted in both principle and history. Resolutions passed by the UN Security Council in 1948 and later years specifically acknowledge Kashmir as a disputed territory and demand a free and fair plebiscite overseen by the UN. India has flagrantly violated international law and the UN Charter by failing to uphold these commitments and by continuing to use military force against the Kashmiri people. Pakistan has the obligation and the right to represent Kashmir in all diplomatic settings as a party to this conflict and a member of the global community.
Present-Day Silence Around the World
There has been a concerning global trend of indifference over the last six years. Many strong countries have prioritized economic interests over human rights after being influenced by India’s market potential and strategic alliances. New Delhi has been empowered to solidify its settler-colonial policies in Kashmir as a result of this deliberate silence. Under such circumstances, the only reliable refutation of India’s propaganda is Pakistan’s vigorous and tenacious diplomacy.
The Fronts of Diplomacy Pakistan needs to get stronger.
International Forums and the United Nations
Pakistan must keep bringing up the Kashmir issue in the UN Security Council, Human Rights Council, and General Assembly, calling for resolutions to be implemented and drawing attention to persistent human rights abuses. Regular presentations of comprehensive dossiers detailing arbitrary arrests, demographic shifts, and extrajudicial killings are required.
Interacting with the Muslim World
Beyond token gestures, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) needs to be inspired to take a more assertive stand. In order to start joint resolutions and apply collective pressure on India through diplomatic channels and economic measures, Pakistan should collaborate with other powerful Muslim nations.
Making Use of Western Democracies
In order to keep Kashmir a topic of public discussion and legislation in the US, UK, EU, and Canada, Pakistan should make contact with legislators, human rights organizations, and media outlets in these nations. Forming partnerships with diaspora and civil society organizations can generate grassroots pressure that is difficult for governments to ignore.
Combating Misinformation in India
India has made significant efforts to influence the international discourse by characterizing Kashmiri resistance as terrorism and portraying the problem as a “internal matter.” Pakistan needs to refute this narrative using reliable data, testimonies from survivors, and independent reports from global human rights organizations.
Public diplomacy and the media
Due to limited access and inconsistent coverage, Kashmir is frequently ignored by international media. Pakistan needs to support journalists, host international gatherings, and advertise films, exhibits, and online initiatives that raise awareness of the Kashmiri conflict among people around the world.
The Price of Quietness
Millions of people in Kashmir are living the consequences of global inaction; they are not merely hypothetical. India is able to speed up its settler projects, eradicate religious and cultural identity, and change the region’s demographic composition with each day of silence. Pakistan runs the risk of letting the issue fall into the background and allowing India’s long-term annexation ambitions to proceed unopposed if it is unable to maintain Kashmir at the forefront of international discussion.
An Urgent Appeal
Pakistan has a diplomatic obligation that extends beyond making declarations on important occasions. It calls for a persistent, multifaceted, and calculated approach that keeps the promises made to the Kashmiri people fresh in the minds of the international community. In addition to defending a territory, the fight for self-determination in Kashmir also defends the values of justice and international law. Pakistan must support the Kashmiri cause at every chance, in every meeting, and on every international stage until its people’s voice is heard and their rights are reinstated.
