Pakistan Highlights Agricultural Reform Strategy at FAO Forum

Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable agriculture and global food security at the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) 44th Conference in Rome, where Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain, presented Pakistan’s reform-driven agricultural strategy. Minister Hussain underscored ongoing national reforms dedicated to modernizing Pakistan’s agricultural sector, enhancing food security, and promoting inclusive, resilient, and climate-adaptive farming practices.
Addressing international delegates, the Minister detailed comprehensive reforms initiated by Pakistan to develop sustainable and climate-resilient agri-food systems. He highlighted initiatives aimed at upgrading food safety standards, fostering innovation, diversifying crop production, and empowering smallholder farmers. These targeted measures are intended to create an equitable and robust food system that ensures better nutrition, supports rural livelihoods, and provides lasting food security for the nation.
In a broader context, Minister Hussain explained that food security and environmental sustainability constitute global challenges demanding collective and unified responses. He reinforced Pakistan’s recognition of global cooperation as pivotal for achieving agricultural development goals. Through exchanging knowledge, adopting international best practices, and leveraging expertise from other nations, Pakistan seeks to meaningfully contribute to global food governance and strengthen collective resilience against ongoing agricultural challenges.
Referring specifically to organizational governance during the FAO Conference, the Minister acknowledged Pakistan’s active participation in electing the new Chairperson and Vice Chairs of the FAO Council. Congratulating the elected leaders, Minister Hussain expressed confidence in their ability to facilitate consensus among FAO member states, strengthen coordination with relevant governing bodies, and maintain responsiveness to evolving global needs and challenges. He reiterated Pakistan’s intention to remain actively engaged and constructively supportive of the FAO’s governance agenda.
Minister Hussain emphasized the significance of Pakistan’s ongoing collaboration with FAO and other international partners, including the World Food Programme (WFP) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Recognizing their vital role, he appreciated the international organizations’ efforts in implementing programs aimed at combating food insecurity, improving nutrition, and addressing vulnerabilities linked to climate change and environmental stresses.
Concluding his address, the Federal Minister appealed to the global community for continued solidarity and deeper cooperation to tackle escalating food system challenges. He stressed that collective efforts are vital for developing efficient, productive, equitable, sustainable, and resilient agri-food systems capable of serving future generations effectively.
